As ecommerce has grown substantially over the last few years and more and more people are buying goods from overseas, it has become increasingly necessary to improve the documentation of low value, single item goods being sent from one country to another, especially as the rules have tightened up between countries.
Similarly, there is more printed matter (personal correspondence, direct mail, magazines, etc.) being shipped between countries, that also needs clearing on arrival in the UK.
In order to import ecommerce items into any country they need to be checked, processed and cleared and any duties or taxes need to be collected (where applicable). Historically this was done by the bulking of imports (or Low Value Bulk Import – LVBI) but this does not comply with the Union Customs Code (UCC) which came into force in 2016, so LVBI is being withdrawn by December 2020.
A new adaptation of a service called Customs Freight Simplified Procedures (CFSP) is a customs process for importers, administered by HMRC, allowing for faster release of imported goods. This replaces period entry and period warehousing. Under CFSP, P2Pg – as your importer representative – can arrange clearance of goods via a simplified entry.
There are many benefits to CFSP, but the main advantage is instant clearance at the border.
Other advantages to using CFSP include:
- Accelerated release of goods from Customs (subject to anti-smuggling checks), enabling quicker delivery of your goods
- Compliant administrative processes
- Electronic frontier declaration submissions
- Can be used with normal entry and warehouse procedures to fit your business needs
Through a long-standing strategic partnership, we are one of the first companies to be approved by HMRC for CFSP under the new UCC. This is in part because of our AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) status and because of our understanding and experience of customs procedures. By working in collaboration with our strategic partner, we will be able to deliver cleared goods/printed matter coming in from abroad for delivery to UK customers, quicker than ever before. Goods can also be transited through the UK for onward distribution and clearance to third countries (e.g. from/to the EU, the US, etc.)
